BRIAN JACKS’S the MINDSET OF A CHAMPION is a fascinating and a revealing account of how Brian became a champion and he shares the secrets of winning in life and in sport.
Brian faced challenges and he asked himself serious questions about what he’d let himself in for. But he decided to fight. In life it’s FIGHT or FLIGHT and Brian’s a fighter who never shirks a challenge. Even during his darkest days he found inner steel to soldier on which is a testament to his particular brand of grit, courage and work ethic. There is no doubt that Brian had talent but he mixed it with dedication, discipline and determination. Sacrifices were made and tears were shed as Brian overcame adversity to reach the top in judo one of the World’s toughest sports. He’s a 10th Dan. This means he’s sitting at the top of the judo tree and very few people in the world reach this level. He’s also an Olympic and World Championship medalist.
Toward the end of his glittering competitive career he took part in BBC’s Superstars where he applied the same principals as he had throughout his judo career. This worked, Brian became British and European champion, and he inspired a generation of people to take up martial arts.

Robert Austin: 3 Sep 2018. A very enjoyable book form start to finish. I admire the honesty, and I admire the man.
Tony Underwood: 3 Sep 2018. A truly historic book of interest to those involved during the years covered, those new to the sport and anyone interested in martial arts in general. As the years progress it will rightly become a classic Judo narrative of the late 20th century when Judo flourished in the UK.
Dr. Llyr C. Jones: 26 Aug 2018. A compelling read on the life and driving forces behind one of the greatest UK judoka and sportsmen. Brian’s personality and infectious positivity and drive come over on every page.
